Vedic Environment

Skanda giri camp, Secunderabad, 12/01/2024

There was some space in the office of the Kanchi Mutt. I was sitting in a corner and reading a book , when the screen was put in the Pooja hall for chandana abhishekam. A devotee came towards the office desk and asked, ” I have one doubt. Can I ask?”

I was wondering what he would ask, especially if he asks about anushtanam etc. I told him to ask. He asked, “The Swamigal a few days ago spoke about Vedic Environment. What He meant?”

It is a question which cannot be explained in a few lines, nor am I an expert on subjects like this.

This country is famous for Vedic civilization , where it was a way of life and there was no dividing line. The rivers, the Space, Air,Fire, water and Earth are part of the Universe and part of one’s own self.

Every microscopic element is part of this great macro world. When the Self within is awakened, the entire cosmos  within that Self pulsates with dynamic principle. When I am in everything and everything is in me, the Vedic civilisation showed me that I pervade in everything.

We have come far away from.the zenith of that divine thinking and trying to bring back those environment our ancestors lead a life of simplicity with highly evolved thinking.

I am too small to explain to the devotee. But as we were talking , I showed him nearly 20 vidhyarthis taking water from the well by pumping through hands and taking water for the morning prayer – Sandhya vandanam.  They all say in a line and were doing Sandhya Vandhanam.

Then  a retired collector from Chennai, may be above 75 years. whose bag consists of only two things – a pancha patram and Ramayana book.He got up from his seat to do Sandhya Vandhanam. Then a group of people were singing carnatic music, some chanting bhajans in turns. These environments were at home and still it is in some homes.

Perhaps His Holiness while mentioning about Vedic Environment, He must have in his mind the Vedic Civilisation, where the entire Universe was respected, revered and the entire world was seen not differently from oneself and every individual was able to do his duty as ordained by Dharma in order to have वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् with no hatred, no jealousy.
